England will open the most beautiful hotel in the world

St Pancras Midland Grand is a historic London hotel, for many years considered one of the most beautiful hotels in the world, will open its doors to guests for the first time in the last 76 years. It has been renamed the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

Midland Grand, designed for 300 rooms, was built in 1873, next to London’s St Pancras station. At that time the hotel would be equipped with all technical innovations, including elevators and revolving doors. However, the rooms had no running water, and guests had to share bathrooms.

Because of the range of public nuisance the hotel was closed in 1935 and was used as office building. In 1966, the hotel and the station building was under threat of demolition. They managed to save fans of the Victorian era, has proven that the demolition of such architectural structures borders on a criminal offence.

In 2004 it was decided to refurbish the St Pancras Midland Grand. In the course of restoration works, costing $245 million in the building were discovered unique wall and ceiling paintings. Continue reading

The international Union of architects presented the project of the hotel, which has become a kind of Noah’s ark.

The main difference of this hotel from other resorts of this level is that it can protect its guests from the disaster of universal scale – earthquakes, tsunamis, severe flooding.

The hotel is called “floating Behemoth”, although in form it rather resembles a shell. The architects themselves call their project Ark, since the hotel should be erected on the same principle as that of Noah’s ark – uniform arrangement of ropes and arches that distribute the weight so that the structure becomes invulnerable to any of the elements.

In the design used solar panels and a rainwater collection system, i.e. “the ark” can exist autonomously. The need for artificial lighting is minimal, since the structure is transparent. Continue reading
